February break is going to be a great time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air! I got an idea from my librarian friends at the Peterborough Town Library - a Winter Walk Bingo Challenge! Print out the sheet below (or use a blank piece of paper) - Fill in each square with a sketch or short answer - bring your sheet to school the week we get back (or email it to ([email protected]) for a chance to win a prize!

There is a lot going on in our country right now that your kids may be asking questions about. The librarians of SAU19 wanted to offer some resources that may help you talk about some of these sensitive subjects with the children in your care. Just click below where I have provided links to all of the levels for those families with a variety of needs.

If you are a J.K. Rowling fan then listen up! She is releasing her newest book, The Ickabog, one chapter at a time from May 26th - July 10th. It is a story that she began writing years ago, but it had gotten put up in her attic for another day. And that day is today!!! And what makes it even better is that she wants children, that may be looking for a little something to do while stuck at home, to do the illustrations! So if you are interested, you can read more about it on her website (<click there). If you decide to do any illustrations, I'd love to see them! Each year on Memorial Day, NBCS honors those in the military that have passed away or died in the line of duty with our Memorial Day Assembly. I always enjoy this day, with students singing patriotic songs, veterans speaking, and everyone respectfully honoring those who have served our country and given the greatest sacrifice. I will miss hearing "A Toast to the Flag", In Flanders Field and Mr. And Mrs. Towne talking about the members of the military and their service. Take some time to reach out and thank a current or former member of the military for their service. Send a card, make a phone call, FaceTime or video chat. Tell them that we all appreciate the hard work and sacrifices they have made to protect our country. Please watch the following video to learn a bit more about Memorial Day. Click on this link to view a video talking about Memorial Day. Jason Reynolds, author of the Track series (Ghost, Patina, Lu, Sunny) has been chosen by the Library of Congress as their National Ambassador For Young People's Literature. Since he cannot go out and tour and meet kids all across the country, he has created a "GRAB THE MIC: Tell Your Story" video series. He talks a bit about himself, his passion for writing, and offers writing challenges to kids. Here is one of the videos challenging you to write a story about an imaginary tiny neighborhood. I hope you give it a try!
Hi everyone! I've been working hard supporting your teachers and friends in this Connected Learning place. But I finally had a chance to record a story for you to watch/listen to. It is an old favorite around NBCS. We do love Bear and his caring friends!! Their acts of kindness show us how to treat one another, even if Bear sometimes makes silly choices! This week we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day!!! So I wanted to share some cool resources and activities with you.
NASA has amazing Earth Day posters that they have created! You can view them or even print them from here. Check out other great NASA resources in their Earth Day 2020: 50th Anniversary Toolkit as well! How about some gardening activities for Earth Day? KidsGardening.org has some super fun activities for all ages! Click here to explore and find some fun to have outside on these warm spring afternoons. For those of you that like to noodle around with programming, Google has created a tutorial that allows you to create your own Earth Day themed Google Doodle! I had a lot of fun making my own, and I hope you do too! You can find everything you need by clicking the Google doodle below - no login necessary! Hey Bobcats and families!
I hope this post is finding you safe and healthy. I have been working hard from home and I know you have been too! This Connected Learning from home is tricky! But I have confidence in all of you! And I miss you! I miss seeing all of you and sharing books and computers and other library stuff. So I thought I would remind/tell you about of a couple places you can go to find books to read from home! Those of you in 3rd grade and up might remember that we have e-books through MackinVIA. You can find the link to get there on our library catalog - The Magic Book on the Library Learning Commons page of our school website. (I have also put it below) We own around 400 books, but Mackin is letting us borrow the whole elementary school library for free! So now we have more than 5,000 books!!! I am sure some of this could keep you busy! There are non-fiction and fiction from Pre-K through 6th grade. Some of the books read-aloud to you (search for interactive) and some you can read yourself. We also have access through a few more great publishers to a ton more e-books! MackinVIA - School: New Boston Central School Username: nbcs Password: bobcat Capstone Publishing - Username: continue Password: reading Abdo Publishing - Username: ABDO Elementary , Password: 2020 Crabtree Publishing - Username: read Password: free Junior Library Guild - no username or password needed if accessing with a computer So enjoy books to your heart's content! |
